Welcome to Southport! It brings me great pleasure to bring you the program for this year's Grand Tournament.

Over the next five days, we will bear witness to several exciting and fun-filled events.

Monday - Combat on Foot: Competitors will square off against each other in one-on-one combat. Full plate armor and un-sharpened swords, battle axes, or maces will be used to score points on one another through various strikes. A knight may yield at any time if the beatings become too much.

Monday - Quintain: If you wish to get a small preview of the main event, you can go over to the jousting arena and watch the Quintain. Jousters will be permitted to make practice runs against a stationary target. Each entrant will be allowed no more than five total passes during the Quintain.

Tuesday - Mounted Combat: Knights will face off with weapons from horseback. Weapons permitted are - sword, battle ax, or mace. All weapons are made as safe as possible, but injuries can and do happen. Winners are determined by unhorsing an opponent.

Wednesday - Melee: The knights will break into two teams, and combat each other from horseback following the rules of Mounted Combat. The last one(s) remaining will claim victory for their team.

Thursday - Finals for the Combat on Foot and Mounted Combat. Also preliminaries for the Joust will be held. During the Joust, competitors will charge at one another along a specified path, wearing full armor and armed with a lance. Points are scored for strikes, and for unhorsing an opponent. The top four jousters from the day will meet in the Championship Match to be held on Friday.

Friday - Championship Match for the Mounted Joust. All matches are single-elimination. The top jouster will be named Tournament Champion. Following the Championship Match, we will hold a Banquet where all knights and their sponsors will enjoy camaraderie and bonhomie.

MOUNTED COMBAT

Today's competitors for the Mounted Combat (and their trusty steeds) are ready for action! Once again, ten of our knights will be competing, with Sir Ingvarr Alrikson (also once again) bowing out in order to practice for the Melee on Wednesday. The matches were as follows, with the winners in bold type:

Match 1: Sir Lufian Bellecote vs. Dame Emma Freydottir

Match 2: Sir Sigebert Arundel vs. Dame Sunniva d'Auvay

Match 3: Dame Kendra Harcourt vs. Sir Godric Fourneaux

Match 4: Dame Asbjorg Aladottir vs. Sir Averill Talbot

Match 5: Sir Vigfus Njalson vs. Dame Whitney Bachiler (during this match, Dame Whitney Bachiler suffered an unlucky strike which caused damage to her neck muscles. The hit was ruled unintentional, so there was no disqualification. Dame Whitney was, however, forced to concede the match. She is expected to recover fully in time for the joust but for now, she has withdrawn from the melee.)

Winners will advance. The 5 defeated knights faced off in a melee to determine who would move on with the others. The winner of that competition was Sir Godric Fourneaux. (I'm starting to see a pattern here lol) Congratulations to today's valiant combatants, and thank you for another thrilling day!

MELEE

ejhabb.jpg

Welcome to today's event - the Melee! This is a long-time favorite among the people of Port Chloe, as there will be plenty of weapons flailing and knights shouting at anyone within a ten-mile radius. The knights have been divided into two teams. The knights in command of their respective teams are Dame Kendra Harcourt for Team Yellow and Sir Godric Fourneaux for Team Black. The leaders chose their teammates in a round-robin, with the following final results:

Team Yellow
Dame Kendra Harcourt
Dame Asbjorg Aladottir
Dame Emma Freydottir
Sir Averill Talbot
Sir Vigfus Njalson

Team Black
Sir Godric Fourneaux
Sir Sigebert Arundel
Dame Sunniva d'Auvay
Sir Lufian Bellecote
Sir Ingvarr Alrikson

Today's event was fraught with excitement. The two teams both lost a knight very early on (Sir Averill Talbot for the Yellows and Sir Sigebert Arundel for the Blacks). Before too long, Team Black pulled ahead, eliminating two more of Team Yellow in short order (Sir Vigfus Njalson and Dame Asbjorg Aladottir). But the Yellows didn't stay down for long, taking out Team Black's leader and strongest knight, Sir Godric Fourneaux. In the confusion that followed the loss of their leader, Team Black then lost another knight when Sir Lufian Bellecote was ganged up on by the last two Yellows. This left two knights for each team, with Dame Kendra Harcourt squaring off against Dame Sunniva d'Auvay while her teammate Dame Emma Freydottir went after Sir Ingvarr Alrikson. It seems that all that practicing paid off for Sir Ingvarr, as he was able to dispatch his opponent in quick order. He then joined Dame Sunniva d'Auvay in a handy two-on-one. But Dame Kendra Harcourt showed us what it means to be a true knight, as she boldly stood against her opponents and bested them both!! The winner of today's Melee is TEAM YELLOW!! Congratulations to all of our knights for a thrilling display of sportsmanship and epic brawling!

And a special "huzzah!!" for Dame Kendra Harcourt!!

Today is the day where we will name a Champion for both the Combat on Foot and Mounted Combat events. On top of this being an important day full of final events, it is also a test of our knights' endurance and spirit. There will be some who have to compete in both finals, and then limp over to the lists so they can also compete in the joust. No matter what, today is going to be full of excitement, chaos, and butt-whompin.

COMBAT ON FOOT (FINAL)

The winners from the preliminaries came ready for action. Here are the results, with winners in bold type:

Dame Emma Freydottir vs. Sir Sigebert Arundel
Dame Sunniva d'Auvay vs. Dame Kendra Harcourt
Sir Averill Talbot vs. Sir Godric Fourneaux

After that round we had three knights remaining. Each knight squared off against the other two, the best record overall was declared the winner. Here's how it went:

Third Place goes to Sir Averill Talbot (0-2)
Second Place is Sir Godric Fourneaux (1-1)
Champion of the Combat on Foot is Dame Kendra Harcourt (2-0)

MOUNTED COMBAT (FINAL)

No rest for the wicked!! Our knights had to hop on their war-steeds and take to the field for the finals of the Mounted Combat. Same structure as the one for Combat on Foot. Here's how it went:

Dame Emma Freydottir vs. Sir Godric Fourneaux
Dame Kendra Harcourt vs. Sir Vigfus Njalson
Sir Sigebert Arundel vs. Dame Asbjorg Aladottir

Final three results:

Third Place goes to Sir Sigebert Arundel (0-2)
Second Place is Dame Kendra Harcourt (1-1)
Champion of the Mounted Combat is Sir Godric Fourneaux (2-0)

Thanks again to our brilliant and unstoppable knights. Just one thing left to do - JOUST!

MOUNTED JOUST Prelims

In the preliminaries for the Joust, each knight will face all the others one time. These matches are not full-blown jousts, as they consist of a single pass. If no score is made, there may be a second pass. This keeps the knights and their war-steeds ready for the big event on Friday. The top four finishers will then proceed to the finals tomorrow. After each of our sponsored competitors got done with the day's events, here's how the standings ended up.

Dame Kendra Harcourt (6-0)
Dame Asbjorg Aladottir (5-1)
Dame Whitney Bachiler (4-2)
Sir Sigebert Arundel (3-3)

Be sure to scoot on over tomorrow for the finals. It's sure to be brutally enjoyable!

JOUST FINALS!!

Jousting1_KarensWhimsyPD.jpg

This is it, my friends - the final event of the Grand Tournament!! Today we will witness the full ferocity and physicality of the Mounted Joust. We have four knights who have all worked very hard to become Grand Champion. But just like the immortals in "Highlander", there can be ONLY ONE!! But unlike the immortals in "Highlander", we wont be lopping off heads to determine a winner. Still - gonna be lots of fun!

Each match will consist of four passes. Here's a breakdown of the scoring:

1 point for breaking a lance on opponent's body
2 points for breaking a lance on an opponent's shield
3 points for breaking a lance on an opponent's helmet
5 points for unhorsing an opponent

Our knights will meet in a single-elimination round-robin. The matches have been selected based on their records in the preliminaries - #1 will face #3 and #2 will face #4. Then the winners will go at it and we'll have ourselves a new champ! Here's the run down on how it all went.

ROUND ONE

Dame Kendra Harcourt vs. Dame Whitney Bachiler
Dame Kendra wins with 5 points overall, to Dame Whitney's 3 points.

Dame Asbjorg Aladottir vs. Sir Sigebert Arundel
Sir Sigebert wins with 5 points overall, to Dame Asbjorg's 1 point.

ROUND TWO - CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Dame Kendra Harcourt vs. Sir Sigebert Arundel

First Pass: Dame Kendra breaks her lance against the midsection of Sir Sigebert. At the same time, he breaks his lance against her chest. One point per knight is awarded.

Second Pass: Both knights fail to connect. No points awarded.

Third Pass: Sir Sigebert breaks his lance against Dame Kendra's helmet. He accomplishes this while escaping unscathed. Three points to Sir Sigebert, no points awarded to Dame Kendra. At this point, Sir Sigebert has four points, Dame Kendra has one point.

Fourth Pass: Seeming more than somewhat angered, Dame Kendra was out for revenge during the final pass. She hit Sir Sigebert so hard, that we're going to need to come back to the 21st century and use the jaws of life to extricate him from the twisted mess of armor. I mean - ahem - Dame Kendra unhorses Sir Sigebert and is awarded five points. Sir Sigebert fails to strike. And I am pretty sure he soiled himself - in a knightly manner, of course.

Thanks to everyone for making this year's Grand Tournament so much fun!! My dear friends, I am proud to present to you the winner of the Mounted Joust, and this year's Grand Champion - Dame Kendra Harcourt!!!
