Thorfinn Stormarksgothi,

Have you ever performed an Ausa Vatni ceremony?

In many cases, the ceremony is actually led by the child's father, who acts as gothi for the ceremony, rather than an "official" gothi. So, no, I have not, though I have attended one for the youngest child of a couple in our hearth.

It was essentially quite a simple ceremony, in which the new child is recognized as part of the family and community, given his or her name (officially, as in this case his name had already been decided and announced), as well as their personal ørlög (a concept similar to fate).

Thorfinn Stormarksgothi,

Will the child have a good life in front of him or her?

I hope so - but as I'm not a seidh-worker or spaemadhr, I can't really say. The norns may know the child's ørlög, I do not.

Interestingly enough, yes, after a fashion. His name is Erik Odinn.

Also interesting, before his parents began considering themselves Heathen (Asatru), they gave their daughter the middle name of Freja. :viking:

My first given name is actually Greek in origin - just because my parents liked it, not for any ethnic reasons.

My middle given name is a Norse name, but only because I changed it legally from the French name my parents gave me, and which I deeply disliked.

My family name is German.

Yes, I have actually almost 70% Scandinavian ancestry - Norwegian and Swedish. One of the Norwegian branches of the family has been traced back to Viking-era Kings of Norway and Earls of Orkney, plus kings of Mann, Dublin, York, etc.

Well, not in the foreseeable future...

For one thing, the ceremony itself tends to be led by the child's father - so for me to perform one, I'd have to have a child myself - and that's not likely to happen.

It is possible that I could be asked to perform one, but it isn't likely in the near future. No more children are likely to be born into our small hearth in the foreseeable future.

I don't expect to be performing one in Stormark in the foreseeable future, either...unless there's something I don't know about... :evil1:
