Aoife the Celt

Imperial Chancellor's Swearing-In Ceremony

Recommended Posts

* The Law Speaker of the Althing, Lady Aoife the Celt, awaits Imperial Chancellor-Elect Galinn Karisson, the Earl of Leirvik, in the Thorgnyr Lögmadr Room of the Látálarinrúm, the office of the Law Speaker of the Althing, for the Imperial Chancellor's Swearing-In Ceremony for the Sokkvabekk 8 Term.

Lady Aoife is dressed in her magnificent Law Speaker's Ceremonial Garb. She is also wearing the Insignia of the Grand and Glorious Imperial Order of the Two Silver Longships, an ancient Celtic Circlet, diamond earrings, and a copy of the Brísingamen. A little girl of noble birth called Lady Ljúfvina Geirdiarfrsdottir is standing near Lady Aoife. Lady Ljúfvina Geirdiarfrsdottir is dressed in the Eidskog Upphlutur costume, the traditional women's costume of the Traditional District of Eidskog, the traditional district in the Thanedom of Eidsivathing where she is hailing from. The very young noble lady is holding a copy of the Old Tale, the Saga of Stormark's Creation.*

"Imperial Chancellor-Elect Galinn Karisson, the Earl of Leirvik,

Please raise your right hand, put your left hand on the Old Tale and repeat after me:"

"I, Galinn Karisson, the Earl of Leirvik, having been elected to the office of Imperial Chancellor of Stormark, do hereby solemnly promise and affirm to be a true and faithful Servant unto The Emperor's Majesty as one of His Council of State. I shall not know or understand of any manner of thing to be attempted, done or spoken against His Most Imperial and Most Royal Majesty's Person, Honour, Crown or Dignity Imperial, but I shall lett and withstand the same to the uttermost of my power, and either cause it to be revealed to His Most Imperial and Most Royal Majesty Himself, or to such of His Council of State as shall advertise His Most Imperial and Most Royal Majesty of the same. I shall in all things to be moved, treated and debated in Council, faithfully and truly declare my Mind and Opinion, according to my Heart and Conscience; and shall keep secret all matters committed and revealed unto me, or that shall be treated of secretly in Council. And if any of the said Treaties or Counsels shall touch any of the Members I shall not reveal it unto him but shall keep the same until such time as, by the consent of His Most Imperial and Most Royal Majesty or of the Council, Publication shall be made thereof. I shall to my uttermost bear Faith and Allegiance to the Emperor's Majesty; and shall assist and defend all Jurisdictions, Pre-eminences, and Authorities, granted to His Most Imperial and Most Royal Majesty and annexed to the Crown by or under the High Laws and Statutes of Stormark, or otherwise, against all Foreign Princes, Persons, Prelates, States, or Potentates. And generally in all things I shall do as a faithful and true Servant ought to do to His Most Imperial and Most Royal Majesty. I do also solemnly declare that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion."

*Lord Galinn, dressed in a dark blue court dress uniform, carefully places his left hand on the Old Tale, and raises his right hand. With a clear and booming voice, he recites the Oath:

The Althingi Guards stand at attention, and raise a salute to the newly sworn in Imperial Chancellor. Lord Galinn shakes the Lady Law Speaker's hand, and walks to greet the gathered dignitaries outside.*
