  1. Throne/Chair of Office of the Jarl of Vinland

Haha, touche! Having given it some thought, I have decided upon the Knörr Throne to commemorate the ships which were used to discover the real-life Vinland, and which were used by the Norse for their long distance travels across the world.
  2. Hall of the Jarl of Vinland

I actually agree, I think it is most appropriate, and has a good sound to it. Thank you, Lady Aoife, for the suggestion!
  3. 60,000 Posts!

Huzzah! Congratulations to everyone for creating such a strong and long-lasting community!
  4. Idea

Well, I suppose that means one less player... Thank you for your interest, Lady Astrid, and I welcome anyone else who wishes to participate to join in! I plan on getting this started soon, now that I can effectively observe the election process.
  5. Orders in Council #198, Thorvald Bjorklund: Jarl of Vinland

Thank you very much, Lady Aofie! It is an honor to be able to assume the title of Jarl and to be able to offer what little service I can to Vinland. I hope to really get things going here and to inspire similar movements within other jarldoms!
  6. Renunciation of Patricianship

    Uh... okay?
  7. Idea

Now that we have a constitution in Vinland, and a chance at proper government, I wanted to propose an idea which is open to all Stormarkers. I hinted at this idea earlier, but now I wish to see if there is any interest in it. Since Vinland will need to convene its first parliament, I wonder if people would be interested into simulating an election for the Vinlandsthing? My idea is that each "player" would be allowed to simulate a character and/or start a party which would campaign, present platforms, etc. At the end of the campaign, everyone in Stormark would be entitled to vote in the election, and this would determine how seats would be allocated within the Vinlandsthing, and set up future simulations. To me, this would be a nice way to introduce politics and excitement into Stormark without causing the kind of real political wrangling which seems to tear apart many micronations. As well, who knows, we could even attract new citizens by such a move! Anyway, just a suggestion for everyone to consider.
  8. Background

Your Majesty, I have no further edits to make, and would support its enactment.
  9. Background

Lady Astrid, I thank you for your kind words, and for your support in this entire venture. I believe this Organic Law is not my own but a product of our skill and unity as Stormakers. I have made a few final edits and, if this shall be acceptable, I hope it will be enacted as the governing document of Vinland: The Organic Law of the Viceroyalty of Vinland WHEREAS Our Viceroyalty of Vinland is without proper governance; AND WHEREAS the people of the Far Away Land seek to assert their sovereignty over their own government; AND WHEREAS the history of Vinland and the traditions of the Norse people call upon a just and fair order to promote the general good of the people; LET IT THEREFORE BE KNOWN that We, by this Our Imperial Instrument, in the exercise of Our Most Ancient Prerogative Imperial and Our Capacity of Jarl-at-Large of all Our Jarlless Jarldoms declare, ordain and enact this Organic Law for Our Viceroyalty of Vinland: Chapter 1: Fundamental Principles Article 1: The Viceroyalty of Vinland is a Jarldom of the High Realm of Stormark, and is subject to the High Law of the High Realm of Stormark, its laws, and its authority. 10. Background

I think those are some excellent changes! I have added a few of my own: The Organic Law of the Viceroyalty of Vinland WHEREAS Our Viceroyalty of Vinland is without proper governance; AND WHEREAS the people of the Far Away Land seek to assert their sovereignty over their own government; AND WHEREAS the history of Vinland and the traditions of the Norse people call upon a just and fair order to promote the general good of the people; LET IT THEREFORE BE KNOWN that We, by this Our Imperial Instrument, in the exercise of Our Most Ancient Prerogative Imperial and Our Capacity of Jarl-at-Large of all Our Jarlless Jarldoms declare, ordain and enact this Organic Law for Our Viceroyalty of Vinland: Chapter 1: Fundamental Principles Article 1: The Viceroyalty of Vinland is a Jarldom of the High Realm of Stormark, and is subject to the High Law of the High Realm of Stormark, its laws, and its authority. 11. Background

Lady Astrid, I very much like your improvements, I think they are most fitting, indeed! The only thing I have an issue with, and this is just my personal opinion, I think the title of the head of the legislature should just be Speaker, or even Chairman, with perhaps an alternate translation being "lawspeaker," just to emphasize the sort of Anglo-Commonwealth feel to Vinland. Regardless, I think that these edits are most helpful, thank you! I wonder if someone could provide a translation for "Assembly of Vinland" in Norse? Is it something like "Vinlandting"? It may be a bit more organic than "Legislative Assembly."
  12. The Old and the Bold

Lady Astrid, I have, indeed. I am hoping to put together a proposal for an order of battle if the Vinland Defence Force should be called out of reserve.
  13. Vinlandish University

Lady Astrid, Vinland actually has three prominent institutions of higher education. The most prominent and well known is the public University of Vinland, which has a main campus, and a few satellite campuses around the island. Then there is Eriksson University, which is a private university, which has students mainly from aristocratic or elite backgrounds (though that is not to say that it does not have its fair share of hard-working students from outside of the nobility). Finally, there is the Mágnhús College (named for High Queen Sigrid's father), which is a private institution that combines modern university academics with a Norse religious core, and has produced quite a few Vinlandish clerics and prominent Daughters of Frejya.
  14. Background

I have produced the a first draft of a constitution for Vinland. I have changed a few things for practicality sake, but the content is generally what I outlined before.
